Acupuncture treatment of any condition is started by an initial consultation to establish what will be needed to help with a complaint or condition.
You may be asked about about any other conditions, past medical history and other questions in order for Mark to take a holistic approach in helping you.
This followed by an analysis and check of your present health situation and a consultation of your complaint or condition. This will assist Mark in making a clear diagnosis and recommendations.
In Marks skilled hands, acupuncture treatment is a relatively painless procedure. The treatment usually works in stages, in that the first one or two treatments may produce only a transitory effect. A course of six to eight sessions is often required for effective symptom relief depending on the condition.
When the acupuncture needles are actually inserted, they are usually left in place for a short while and often the Mark will try and manipulate the needles so that you will feel a dull bursting or numb sensation around their site of insertion. This sensation is called "de qi" or "obtaining energy" and traditionally it is suggested that “de qi” may be an important part of the treatment process. Sometimes Mark may use other methods of stimulating the acupuncture point, for instance moxibustion, which is the burning of a herb just above the surface of the skin or on the end of a needle, or placing a cup over the acupuncture point.
